NEWS: ALEX ROSS BOARDS THE ENTERPRISE

Source: AlexRossArt.com

Polar Lights, a brand of Round 2, LLC, is proud to announce that celebrated comic book artist Alex Ross has created the box art for its new 1:350 scale Star Trek: the Original Series U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 model kit.

Polar Lights has been working hard to make this highly demanded kit as accurate to the original filming model as possible. In order to make this kit the best of its kind, brand manager Jamie Hood sought an artist who could do the subject justice. "Alex Ross’ painting has the kind of attention to detail that lends itself perfectly to the Star Trek franchise," said Hood. "His realistic style of artwork reflects the level of quality that we are trying to attain with this kit. The art looks like it has jumped straight off the screen. We’re thrilled to have the chance to work with Alex on this project and we think he’s the perfect man for the job."

Remember that this company has previously worked with Alex on a 1960's Batmobile model which came out last year. The Enterprise model kit will be available this October.

AVENGERS: ALEX ROSS' GREATEST HITS

In honor of the worldwide release of the AVENGERS movie, here are some of the most popular renditions Alex Ross has done of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. (TOP: Avengers litho)

Left: First Avengers - Cover to C2E2 convention program; Center: Avengers by John Buscema & Alex Ross (print); Right: Avengers Assemble - Cover to Overstreet Price Guide (my personal favorite because it honors Jack Kirby's original cover - Long Live the King!)

Enjoy the movie!

UPDATE: The movie is really fun!!!

THE SHADOW #1 - SKETCH COVERS

A new "The Shadow" series was launched by Dynamite Entertainment, last week (April 18) with the help of some very important creators such as Garth Ennis (writer) and Aaron Campbell (artist) as well as Jae Lee, Alex Ross, John Cassaday and Howard Chaykin doing covers and unsurprisingly, the first issue was a success. To prove that it would be a hot seller, Dynamite "motivated" retailers who ordered very large quantities (some say around 250 issues) by sending them one of the 200 "Dynamite Authentix" individually sketched, retailer incentive covers by Alex Ross. That's right! Alex Ross personally sketched 200 issues of the blank cover you see on the left. Each sketch is different! Plus he sketched another 25 as part of a "manufacturer's proof" which are even scarcer. You can see number 25 of 25 of these covers below.
I have taken upon myself the task of chronicling all of these covers by posting photos or scans of the issues that people have put up on eBay as well as others that have appeared on other comic book-related sites. The credit is to the respective owners of said issues, I'm just packaging everything into one easy to find place on the web.

If you have any additional information or if you see any of these covers posted online or even if you happen to own one, please send me a scan or a clear photo to alexrosscollector@gmail.com, even if they're repeated, I'm also looking for clearer shots of the ones I have. Help this collector display all 200 (and 25) issues of The Shadow on this site. Thank you!

These are issues 9, 10, 15, 22, 28, 32, 34, 35, 41, 42, 43, 50, 55, 66, 67, 77, 78, 81, 93, 98 and 107

The following are the issues for which I don't know the numbers yet.

This will be the third cover Alex has done for this magazine and the tenth collaboration with this publisher. Check out all of Alex's magazine covers done for Twomorrows Publishing HERE.

2009 POLITICAL PORTFOLIO

This portfolio folder which was released only at 2009's San Diego Comic-Con, contains the FOUR images you see below in a very nice 10 x 15 in. (25.5 x 38 cm) litho format which really brings out the color and the little nuances of Alex Ross' art. The first three images were covers for The Village Voice, a NYC newspaper, while the last one was done to support Barack Obama in his presidential campaign.
If you want to learn more about the Village Voice images, please visit the newspapers section of this site.

(Above Left to Right: Uncle Sam - Truth, Justice and the Comics; Sucking Democracy Dry; Make Love, Not War - these were all covers for The Village Voice newspaper; Left: Super-Obama - created for Obama's campaign)

Where can you get these lithos? I got them from Spidey Collectibles/The Comic Newsstand on eBay. They sell these images individually (here are the links: Uncle Sam, G.W.Bush, Bush/Cheney and Obama) or you can contact them to get the full portfolio with all the four images at a discount. Trust me, I got a very fair price for this portfolio from them, they're really nice people and they love comics as much as I do.
