The continuous saga of Kirby: Genesis with cover and interior art by Alex Ross and Jack Herbert and the launching Bionic Man series by Kevin Smith. Here's hoping Alex stays on the Bionic Man doing covers for Smith's run like he did on the Green Hornet and Last Phantom. Also the last issue of Rocketeer adventures comes with a cover by original creator Dave Stevens painted over by Alex in which you can actually see the rocketeers face, sweet!

PERSONALIZED ART: MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a not-for-profit organization which helps kids who are severely or even terminally ill to achieve their hearts' desires. Joshua got his wish in the form of "meeting" Batman and had a picture with him courtesy of Alex Ross.

Alex also helped Make-A-Wish by auctioning off the original art for Shazam: Power of Hope and all the proceeds were donated to this organization. Isn't that nice?

NOTE: If anyone reading this knows about how this image came to be or if you're a relative of the Joshua in the picture and would like to share his story, I'd be happy to hear it and/or post it on this site. Thanks!

POSTCARDS

Cashing in on the success of the book Mythology. DC Comics printed this lovely, yet nostalgic item (I mean, who sends these anymore?). It's a little book of 30 postcards featuring Alex Ross' art at said publisher. It's got great art, some of these can be seen without any sort of logo or barcode or any of those things that obscure the artwork when it's in a cover. So it's a win/win situation.

Below is the artwork for the postcards. Enjoy!

SMALLVILLE: GREATEST HITS

Smallville has been for the past 10 years a staple on TV. It had great episodes, some even written by Geoff Johns, and some insufferable ones. It has had incredible cameos by many superheroes from the DCU as well as some unnecessary ones. Love it or hate it, in celebration of its last episode which airs tonight in the USA, here's Alex Ross' Smallville art.
This spread (above) was supposed to be used for a DVD of one of the seasons but I believe it didn't make the cut. If you have it or have seen it, let me know.

There's also his now famous TV Guides with interlocking covers featuring the 3 main characters and Alex's Superman in one amazingly gorgeous image which captures the essence of the show in its early stages by then. I wrote about these HERE.

Finally, on the heels of the announcement of a new Superman movie, which later became the ill-fated Superman Returns, Alex proposed they "upgrade" Smallville actor Tom Welling, who has only played Clark Kent or Kal-El in the show to Supes for the new movie. He even made these couple of sketches to prove his point. Well, execs didn't pay attention, the director, Bryan Singer, went with Brandon Routh instead and the rest is history.

I hope you enjoy the artwork and also hope the ending of this series lives up to the expectations! So long, Smallville...

NEWS: KEVIN SMITH & DYNAMITE'S BIONIC MAN

KEVIN SMITH JOINS DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT TO LAUNCH THE BIONIC MAN COMIC BOOK SERIES!

The Bionic Man series to launch in August 2011! Bionic Woman in 2012!

May 12, 2011 - Runnemede, NJ - Dynamite Entertainment is pleased to announce the latest legendary characters to join Dynamite's roster of incredible properties - The Bionic Man and The Bionic Woman! Licensed by NBC Universal Television Consumer Products Group, both characters became pop culture icons in the 1970's with their popular television programs! After last year's critically and commercially successful collaboration on the Green Hornet, Kevin Smith and Dynamite Entertainment are reuniting once again, with the creative team that brought the flagship Green Hornet series to fans; Phil Hester, Jonathan Lau, and Alex Ross on covers! The Bionic Man is based on the Universal Television Series "The Six Million Dollar Man."

"True story: when I turned in a script for The Six Million Dollar Man back in '98, there was an exec who dismissed it as being more like a comic book than a movie," said acclaimed film director and writer Kevin Smith. "It's an honor to head back into the trenches with the same creative team at Dynamite that made my Green Hornet script so readable and fun. It makes me moist."

"I'm one of those kids who grew up with The Six Million Dollar Man toys all over my house," said cover artist Alex Ross. "I still prize them as one of the favorite parts of my youth for the amazing variety of things that Steve Austin could use or fight against. The Six Million Dollar Man is one of the coolest original superhero properties invented for television."

"When I heard about The Bionic Man, my initial thought was how to make him stand out from the rest of the cyborg genre, and that's where my style comes into play," said artist Jonathan Lau. "Hopefully this will be a fun ride showcasing a more extreme play of action than I used to do!"

"I'm thrilled to help bring Kevin's unique vision for Steve Austin and company," said Phil Hester. "Fans of the original will find all the classic elements they long for, while those hungry for new elements will get a healthy dose of bionic action for the 21st century."

"I grew up LOVING The Bionic Man," said Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "As a child I wanted to be him, but since that hasn't happened, the next best thing is publishing The Bionic Man. Dynamite will also be bringing The Bionic Woman to stores in 2012! Wait until you see what we have planned!"

The Bionic Man is based on the Universal Television Series "The Six Million Dollar Man." The Six Million Dollar Man is an American television series about a former astronaut with bionic prosthetics working for the OSI. It aired on the ABC network as a regular series from 1974 to 1978, following three television movies aired in 1973. The title role of Steve Austin was played by Lee Majors, who subsequently became a pop culture icon of the 1970s. A spin-off of the show was produced, The Bionic Woman, as well as several television movies featuring both characters.
