COVER GALLERY: 2010

This year Alex did a lot covers for miniseries which now have their own sections on this site or have been update for this post, namely: Project Superpowers, Invaders Now!, Green Hornet, The Last Phantom and the occasional Astro City trade, so now we'll concentrate on new covers that were done for single issues and magazines or trades. Enjoy!

THE WORLD’S GREATEST SUPER-HEROES TP: This awesome trade puts together all six of The Oversized Books Alex Ross and Paul Dini published between 1998 and 2003 which include:
• SUPERMAN: PEACE ON EARTH
• BATMAN: WAR ON CRIME
• SHAZAM!: POWER OF HOPE
• WONDER WOMAN: SPIRIT OF TRUTH
• JLA: SECRET ORIGINS
• JLA: LIBERTY AND JUSTICE
Everything wrapped in this gorgeous new cover which just leaps out of the page!

Dynamite Entertainment got the best part of the covers this year. Besides the miniseries like Project Superpowers, Green Hornet and The Phantom, Alex was able to contribute with the cover for the first issue of Warlord of Mars (left) as well as 2 gorgeous covers for the newly relaunched Vampirella series, one honors the late Frank Frazetta (center) and the other, well my guess is on Stephen King's Carrie although naked and way hotter.

Alex Ross also contributed with his pal Steve Darnall's (writer of Uncle Sam) magazine Nostalgia Digest by honoring the renowned radio broadcasting legend Norman Corwin with this patriotic cover in his 100th birthday. Yes, Mr. Corwin turned 100 this year.
There was also this little-known cover to the indie comic Days Missing in which Alex contributed to the issue which focuses on the character called Kestus.

IN MY COLLECTION: The Vampirella issue in its regular (Frazetta) cover and the Nostalgia Digest magazine.

PROJECT SUPERPOWERS part 2

PROJECT SUPERPOWERS: CHAPTER TWO: Alex Ross and his team of Jim Krueger, Edgar Salazar and Doug Klauba returned to the PSP world, this time with a second chapter in this saga, this time it was 13-issue run from #0 with 3 interlocking variant covers as well as 2 variant covers for issue one as well as issue 12 as some sort of bookends. All the 17 wonderful covers can be seen below.

BLACK TERROR: After chapter one of the Project Superpowers saga there were 4-issue miniseries of the most important characters Masquerade, The Death-Defying Devil and Black Terror. Well, those for issues of Black Terror became 14 due to the popularity of the character. This series was written by Alex Ross and Phil Hester with art by Eduardo Salazar and Doug Klauba and Wagner Reis starting on issue 10. Of course, the covers were provided by Alex with some amazing results!

PROJECT SUPERPOWERS: MEET THE BAD GUYS: This four-issue miniseries focuses on 4 villains each of the heroes of Project Superpowers have and the covers reflect the twist in this using the hero's name in the back and prioritizing the villains name. This mini was written by Alex Ross and Joe Casey (Jim Krueger also provided an origin story) with art chores done by a cadre of artists which include Jonathan Lau, Mike Lilly, Doug Klauba, Carlos Paul and Jackson Herbert.

PROJECT SUPERPOWERS: X-MAS CAROL A special project written by Brandon Jerwa and pencilled by Patrick Berkenkotter in which Fighting Yank, the Ghost and the American Spirit team up to scare the Dickens out of the villainous Clown in an homage to the classic holiday tale.

For 2010 two in what would hopefully be a line of busts were released. They feature the 2 most recognizable characters in the line, The Death Defying Devil and The Black Terror.
These busts were designed by Alex Ross, who also acts as art director for this line, and sculpted by Joy & Tom Studios.

IN MY COLLECTION: None.
