THE BLACK TERROR #6
Writer: Phil Hester
Penciller/Inker: Jonathan Lau
Cover: Alex Ross
Because YOU demanded it - the Black Terror returns as Dynamite continues the Black Terror ongoing series! Again featuring the covers and direction of Alex Ross, writer Phil (Darkness, MASQUERADE) Hester joins the team as series writer and is joined by Jonathan (MEET THE BAD GUYS) Lau for this thrilling second story arc!
Continuing from last issue - which kicked off this all-new adventure - the Black Terror enlists the help of Masquerade as he attempts to unravel the mystery of the American Crusader, and what happens in this issue will change their relationship forever!
Price: $3.50

MY TWO CENTS: Marvel's Torch cover isn't too exciting and DC isn't unveiling its very limited Detective Comics' cover, lame! On the other hand Dynamite saves the day with 2 rather solid covers. The Superpowers cover, although a bit crowded has a nice color scheme and features lots of characters, just like Alex likes it, and the Black Terror cover takes the prize this month, it may be just me but I love it when Alex mixes panels from the original Golden Age comics with his art, and apparently he loves this as well, having done something similar on the cover of issue 3 of The Torch (November Solicitations). What do you guys think of this technique? Love it? Hate it? Sound off in the comments!!!

JUST IN: USO POSTER

It finally arrived! I reported that this hard to find poster was up for sale on ebay a few weeks ago and now it's mine. It's amazing. The original owner is in the US Army and collects this type of Americana and decided to sell it finding out who it was from from this very site. Shameless plug aside, this gorgeous poster looks as though it's actually painted in watercolor on a heavy stock paper, through a cool printing process, put in another way, if someone were to spill water on it, the paint would run. It says #24 of 54 so it's extremely limited, and I'm really thrilled to have something so limited in my collection, it's just one more step towards having an actual original piece of art by Alex Ross.

STATUES & BUSTS: part 1

KINGDOM COME SUPERMAN STATUE
This is the first and, in my humble opinion, the best of all of Alex Ross statues. It's such an iconic and the pose greatly captures the brooding mood of the KC Superman. It measures around 15 inches (38 cm) and only 5000 were made. The huge statue, sculpted by Alex, also includes a mini poster, painted by him which features the design on which the figure was based on, plus it is signed. This amazing bust, not only belongs in any collector's shelf but if it were 30 ft (10 m) tall it would look great in your local park, too. Due to its hefty price tag of US$200 to US$400 (without shipping costs) this statue isn't IN MY COLLECTION.
The pictures you see weren't taken by me but whoever took them did a fantastic job.

This statue was later re-issued in roughly half the size and fully colorized. It's nice but it isn't as striking as the all-silver one.

WONDER WOMAN DAY

This October 25, 2009 the fourth annual Wonder Woman Day will be celebrated in Portland, Oregon and Flemington, New Jersey (USA). This special day is part of the Domestic Violence Awareness month, so Alex Ross as well as many other artists have donated their finest depictions of the amazon warrior to be auctioned on the specified date. All proceeds will benefit domestic violence shelters and crisis hotlines in the Portland area.
So if you are near these cities, please attend this event and if you have the money, you may walk out of there with a one-of-a-kind piece of Alex Ross art and the satisfaction of helping a really good cause. Great art, great Karma! What else could you want?
