This one flew under my radar. If you were at the Comic-Con last week perhaps you got a preview of the upcoming "Rough Justice: The DC Comics sketches of Alex Ross" a sort of sequel to the famous Mythology book which was also edited by Chip Kidd.
Here's the description:
"Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the stunning black-and-white drawings of the DC characters you loved from Mythology: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Black Canary, and many more. All of Alex Ross’s extraordinary, hyper-realistic paintings start as pencil on paper, and some of them never get beyond that stage. None of these hundreds of graphite sketches has ever been published before, and most of them will make their only published appearance in Rough Justice.
In 2008 Ross became the first cover artist in DC history to work simultaneously on the monthly Superman and Batman titles. All of the designs he created for an entire year–even those that did not make the final cut–are included here. And in an interview with Chip Kidd, Ross reveals his process and how these drawings translate into the finished paintings.
Rough Justice reveals the brilliance and brawn of Alex Ross’s draftsmanship: the foundation of his dazzling images."
This hardcover book goes on sale March 23rd, 2010. Pre-order it today!

Here it is, the cover to the first issue of the Green Hornet series, written by Kevin Smith and released by Dynamite Entertainment. This is one of those classic, in-your-face covers, Alex does so well. I love it!
Dynamite hasn't released any description or price details on this issue yet, so I'll keep you posted.

COLLECTOR'S PLATES part 4 [FINAL]

Another set of the earlier plates featured some more classic heroes. On the left, the Shazam plate features that powerful image of Billy Batson transforming into Captain Marvel in a flash of lightning. On the right, Plasticman stretches himself all over the plate giving the plate that depth and tridimensionality only Alex can achieve.
Later plates featured character combos such as the Green Arrow/Green Lantern plate (left) which reminds us of the now-classic Denny O'Neil-Neal Adams run from the 70's and 80's, a favorite of Alex. The Superman/Flash plate evokes the classic "Who would win?" scenario with Flash slightly winning over Supes. This image was reprinted as a cover of a book called Superman vs. Flash which reprints their classic team-ups.
I was hesitant to put this plate here because it's not new art. The original art (seen on the right) is from a Holiday card given to DC employees in 1997. It's very hard to find so they took this limited edition art and made it available to everybody in the form of the plate you see on the left, only they flipped it. I love this image so I liked that they made it available in another form but anyway I'm getting the card first.
IN MY COLLECTION: None of these plates are in my collection but I'm in the process of getting the Christmas card.
