LEE'S COMICS

Lee Hester, owner of the fantastic comic book store Lee's Comics has contacted The Alex Ross Collector to share some interest info with all visitors to this blog.
First of all, Alex has visited their stores 5 times for signing sessions, quite a lot for a store outside the state of Illinois; Lee's Comics is located in Northern California.
Second, look closely at their logo. Yes, it was created by Alex himself, look at his trademarked strong man/superhero archetype lifting the logo. He hasn't done any other store logo ever since.
Finally, those wonderful prints you see below these lines are still available at their Ebay Store along with some other cool comics and stuff here.

COLLECTOR'S PLATES part 2

To celebrate how cool the Justice League is, Alex not only made his first in a series of collector's plates about them (already seen in PART 1 of this series), but he also dedicated TWO more of these limited items to the renowned DC super-group and he tried to pack each of these with as many members of the team as possible.
The one on the left was released on the heels of the JLA: Liberty and Justice oversized book. It rocks, with all the guys in the watchtower kind of posing for the photo. Except for Flash and Aquaman who appear to have a heated discussion.
The plate on the right is in more of a Christmas-y mood. A very, sad holiday for Batman who spies on his teammates sharing the festive environment. Alex beautifully captures the happiness, as well as the sadness that the holidays can bring to a lot of people.

IN MY COLLECTION: Both plates.

COLLECTOR'S PLATES part 1

The Warner Bros. Studio Store was a very entertaining place to buy comic-related collectibles. Sadly, they closed their doors a long while ago. Luckily, there were a few limited edition Alex Ross items to be found there, namely these amazing decorative plates.

They started this series in 1998 by testing the waters with a Classic JLA one (left) which features all the "original 7" in a clockwise manner wearing their retro-style uniforms. Honestly, I'd love to have this art made into a clock, why haven't DC done it? Come on! it's a no-brainer!

The following plate (below left) features these almost unknown characters for those of you who aren't die-hard DC fans. It's the Metal Men. The plate is awesome, the image is so cool, my guess is that Alex duped some of the suits at Warner to make them believe these characters were very popular. Anyway we got this awesome plate.
Speaking of awesome, what about the plate on the right? Awesome rendition of the classic Teen Titans in another in-your face image. What I love about this plate in particular is how 70's the sidekicks-turned-heroes' uniforms look. You can't beat Alex when it comes to painting heroes in their original appearances.

These plates are usually sold on Ebay for prices ranging from US$40 to US$85, being the most difficult to find, the JLA and Metal Men ones.
IN MY COLLECTION: All 3 plates.

POSTERS part 12

LIMITED EDITION POSTERS
Lee's Comics, a California-based comic shop released these fantastic "mug-shot" posters of Shazam, Wonder Woman and Aquaman in 2000, 2001 and 2003 respectively. The occasion was that Alex Ross visited their stores and did signings and interviews and such (he has done so 5 times). These 3 posters were only available at their stores in Northern California and, of course, at their Ebay store. The unsigned versions are sold for US$20 each and the signed ones for double that price. What are you waiting for? GET YOURS NOW, ONLY AT LEE'S COMICS.

These 2 posters were available at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con along with the limited edition Flash Gordon action figure that we've talked about before. These kinda flew under everybody's radar, what with all the excitement of the figure and the sketchbook. These incredible prints are a little difficult to find, I specially like the one on the left 'cause Flash Gordon looks Conan-esque and the image is more striking and in-your-face than the one on the right. Expect to pay around US$40 for each one when you find them on Ebay.

Finally, also at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con, this lithograph was being sold. The iconic image of "Super-Obama" (the worlds first geek president) was made famous all over the world on t-shirts and buttons. You've got to admit that Alex excelled at the likeness on this piece, the resemblance to the current US president is uncanny. This print was originally sold for about US$50 but it became so popular that is currently being sold on Ebay for more than a hundred dollars. There was even a re-issue of this poster with the title "Inauguration Day" and the date of this event printed on it.

Only the 3 "mug shots" posters are IN MY COLLECTION.
