After the Battle of the Planets post, we know that Alex Ross loves those super heroic characters of old, well he continued this tradition when he helped revamp Space Ghost. The classic Hannah-Barbera cartoon created by Alex Toth became a "serious" comic book in 2005 thanks to writer Joe Kelly and artist Ariel Olivetti and of course Alex's covers. But it all started with a litograph/poster he first made for the Warner Bros. Studio Store which you can see on the left. The mini series consisted of 6 issues and was later compiled in a trade edition. Although it was a commercial success, DC Comics didn't pick it up as an ongoing series. Below are the covers of the 6 issues; not pictured is the trade which reprints a detail of issue #1's cover art.
I'm glad this series is IN MY COLLECTION because Alex really pours a lot of love into this character and it shows in the litho and the covers. Hopefully there will be more of Alex's Space Ghost in the future.
I have also made a video of Alex Ross' comments on the details involved in making the original litograph. Hope you like it!
